Treat the Signs of Aging
Botox is the branded term for toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. As medical science has progressed over the years, medical professionals have since discovered the advantages of Botox in its ability to treat wrinkles and facial creases. It gained FDA approval almost 20 years ago for its use as a treatment for severe frown lines between the eyebrows, also known as glabellar lines. However, it has become one of the most popular injectables and has proven its effectiveness in treating other areas of the face.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox is injected to block signals traveling from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscles do not contract, which results in the softening of the wrinkles. It is often used in forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines.
How is it Performed?
In most medical spas, the procedure only takes a few minutes and does not require anesthesia to be used. Botox is injected with a fine needle into designated areas and muscles with only minor discomfort experienced. After three to seven days, the effects of the procedure begin to appear and patients are recommended to avoid alcohol the week before treatment.
How Long Does a Single Injection Last?
One injection from Botox will produce effects that last four to six months. As the muscles gradually resume action, the lines and wrinkles start to become visible and re-treatment may be required. Over time, the lines and wrinkles will appear less due to the muscles being trained to relax through the periods of treatment
